How to Tell if Glenn Beck is Lying.

If you don’t know who Glenn Beck is, you’re already ahead of the game.  If you know who he is, but you know he’s full of shit, good for you; you oughta get an award.  If you know who he is, you listen to him, and you believe what he says, you need help, and that is what this article is about.  So, I’m only addressing those in the last group I mentioned.  The other 2 can read on, or go surf the internet, or go get a bite to eat, because you’re okay.  Those of you who fall into the 3rd category, the ones who know and listen to this buffoon, need to read this to gain some perspective, and learn the truth.

Look, first of all, Glenn Beck is a self-admitted entertainer.  He gets his speaking jobs because he has developed a talent as a speaker, but that doesn’t qualify him as an historian.  It simply means he has the gift to take what is in his head, and put it into words that people can wrap their arms around.  It doesn’t mean he is telling you the truth, it means that he is conveying his thoughts to you in a manner that sound believable.  Consider this:  Do you believe everything you read?  If the answer is “yes”, you need more help than I can provide, and I suggest you consult a psychiatrist.  If you’re selective about what you believe in print, what is it that determines whether you believe it, or not?  Does it have something to do with the credibility of the author?  If the answer is yes, the rest of what I have to say is easy.  If, on the other hand, you believe what someone is saying because they sound like they know what they’re talking about, BEWARE.  This is the danger of believing people like Glenn Beck.  Glenn Beck KNOWS he sounds believable, and that, my friend, gives him a license to sling bullshit until the cows come home.  Hey, most people don’t like hearing the truth.  Benjamin Franklin once said, “The truth is like the sun; it will always shine through”.  Okay, that’s a lie.  Ben Franklin never said that.  I just made it up, but Glenn Beck will tell you differently.  Please be advised that it is entirely possible that someday, Glenn beck, might broadcast that speed limits are unconstitutional, and there are people out there who will not only believe him, but can’t wait to get out on the highway and experience their new found freedom.  Now do you see the danger?

That said, beware of Glenn Beck.  His only talent is getting people to believe what he says.  If he’s lying, that’s a potentially pretty serious problem, don’t you think?  I mean, consider this:  What if he’s just completely full of shit, and when he gives his history lessons on Fox News, he’s just making it all up?  Think about it.  How many times have you heard him say this: “it’s a little known fact”, “or not too many people know this, but”, or “what you learned in your history class was wrong”?.  Doesn’t that make you wonder where he’s getting his information from?  He continually spouts historical “facts”, that are completely new “facts”, and contrary to everything that has been written, and read, and believed to be the truth for years and years.  I watched him on more than one occasion quote a president, that is no longer living, hence cannot refute what Beck is saying.  Think about it; he’ll tell you that George Washington once said something that nobody but Glenn Beck knows about.  How did he get that information?  Did George speak to him from the grave, and say, “everything I wrote down a couple hundred years ago is complete bullshit.  Here’s what really happened.”  How can that possibly be refuted?  It can’t be, yet people will believe that what he is saying is true, because he’s telling them what they want to hear.  Of course not all people are sucked in by his bullshit, but the one’s that are, truly believe what he says, just as they believe professional wrestling is real, and OJ is innocent.  Yes, his ratings are high, and yes, he has a huge audience, but so does Jerry Springer.  It doesn’t mean it’s quality programming.

So, here’s the real problem:  People like Glenn Beck have a responsibility to tell the truth.  The minute somebody puts a microphone in front of one of these assholes, they had better realize that people are going to listen to them, and they’d better be straight, or they could create a serious problem.

Look, there have been lots of gifted speakers over the years who have turned out to be complete nut jobs, and you possibly know someone close to you who qualifies for that distinction, but the better known ones include Hitler, Jim Jones, Charles Manson, and Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker.

Don’t overlook one very important fact:  Glenn Beck made 32 million last year, and he never even went to college.  Why does he get paid ?  Because he has a talent to bullshit, the gift to gab, whatever, and that’s all.  Do you think he really gives a shit about this country?  Don’t kid yourself.  He says what he says because it gets ratings, which converts to money, which converts to a big salary for him.  Most people don’t like hearing the truth…..maybe explains why MSNBC’s ratings are lower than Fox’s, and if you find yourself glued to Fox news, and you wouldn’t dare switch channels, now is the time to think for yourself, switch channels, and listen to the “other side”.  You might not like what you hear, but if you even have an ounce of intelligence, you just might recognize that the talking heads on the other channels do seem like they are backing up what they say, with facts, that can be checked.  What a novel idea.

The bottom line is this:  Glenn Beck can say what ever he wants…..it’s one of the nice things about this country…you know…the freedom of speech.  So, the solution to the problem of allowing people to spout lies over the airways, is not to shut them up, but to smarten up yourself, and realize the difference between the truth, and pure bullshit.  Use your common sense…..eventually you’ll figure it out.  In the meantime, the next time someone tells you that what you learned throughout your entire life was wrong, and you’re about to hear the real truth about the history of our country, walk away, head for the library, and look up the facts by checking multiple sources against each other.  And if that’s too much trouble, and you’d rather just take Glenn Beck’s word for it, don’t complain about the ways things are going in this country, because it’s people like you that will continue to keep Glenn Beck employed, slinging his bullshit, and leading the less informed along like a bunch of sheep, believing that the country is headed for disaster, when the fact is that the country would be a better place without liars like Glenn Beck.
